With the debate on who succeeds Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa as the Executive Governor of Delta State in 2023 getting intense, young deltans have also weighed in on political developments in the oil-rich state.
A chieftain and youth leader in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District of the state, Comrade Happy Igho Umukoro has stated that Dr Rufus Ebegba is the best option that Delta APC has to oust the ruling PDP.
Speaking through a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, Comrade Umukoro said: “Over the past months, the rumoured intention of Dr Rufus Ebegba, Director General of the National Biosafety Agency (NBMA) to contest the Delta State gubernatorial race on the platform of the APC has generated a lot of debate across the political space in the state, and it is a very interesting development.
“It is interesting because the APC, right now holds the ace going into the 2023 contest, and the entry/emergence of a candidate in the person Dr Rufus Ebegba, will be the game changer that will deliver victory to the party”.
Umukoro who contested as a councillorship candidate of the APC at 2021 Delta State Local Government Council Elections, insisted that what Delta needs was a leader who is prepared on all fronts to tackle issues affecting the state.
“2023 should be about restoring the glory of Delta State through unprecedented development, and from the array of personalities who have indicated their interest, the profile of Dr Rufus Ebegba, NBMA DG is the best suited to emerge as governor”, he said.
Speaking further, Umukoro, a scientist, after running analytical examination on the various aspirants, has come to a conclusion, that “Dr Ebegba offers the fresh air candidacy that the APC needs to present to Deltans come 2023.
From his rich profile we can see that Dr Ebegba possesses a robust understanding of proper governance administration, having served Nigeria at the highest point of the Federal Service as Assistant Director, Federal Ministry of Environment, and now as an Agency’s Director General.
“As one who is free from the baggage of association with the inadequacies of the present political leadership in the state, marketing him to Delta voters will be simple, easy and effective, because Dr Ebegba is the ideal definition and representation of the Change APC aims to serve deltans, a change that is genuine and compassionate”, Umukoro said.
He emphasized the need to prepare the state for genuine advancement that will keep Deltans abreast with the changing times, and called for all to search their conscience to determine a positive fate for Deltans of today and the coming generation.
Umukoro said: ‘Now is not the time to play politics of unrealistic and unprogressive sentiments in Delta State.
“We must indeed take the search to our conscience and tell ourselves the truth that for Delta State to move forward, we must empower a genuine agent and someone who has the will to do what is necessary to safeguard our common patrimony, secure our endeavours and create opportunities for the people to flourish.
“This is why we must support Dr Rufus Ebegba to lead the state come 2023, he is tested, trusted and a verified administrator
