Teachers’ recruitment: Delta to engage only teachers willing to work in rural schools

The Delta State Government says that only applicants willing to serve in the rural and riverine areas of the state should apply for the ongoing recruitment of teachers in the state by the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB).
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Chiedu Ebie made the clarification at a press briefing yesterday, 20/3/2019 in Asaba, which was coordinated by the Commissioner for Information, Chief Patrick Ukah and had in attendance the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Sam Diateke and his functioning counterpart in the Ministry of Information, Mr Paul Osahor JP.
According to Mr Ebie, the state government was making a deliberate effort to do the right thing by ensuring that the recruitment was not flawed from the onset, saying that it would be to address critical areas of need.
Ebie who listed the areas of needs as English Language, Mathematics and the basic sciences, listed the subjects to include physics, chemistry, biology and agricultural science, saying that only applicants with a bachelor in education and are willing to work in the rural areas should apply.
He disclosed that the recruitment which would take 1,000 persons at the end of the exercise, would involve a computer-based test and scores would be immediate, adding that so far, over 47,000 applications had been received.
While also disclosing that the exercise would include oral and micro teaching interviews, the commissioner warned that the application window would soon close.
